M.T. Anderson's book Feed portrays the lifestyles of teenagers living in the future. The characters are set with computers in their brains know as "feeds." a network that they are always connected too. It allows them to chat with others without having to verbally say anything, get information, buy things, and get downloads and watch videos. They rely on their feed to complete daily tasks; it is the only way of life they know.
Feed is filled with points that reflect today’s world. The teenagers brought up in feed act and face similar challenges and lifestyles we do today. For starters, the language in the book is similar to the way we communicate with each other today. The way we use slang words like "mad" and “buggin” the characters use slang such as "meg" in addition to using made up words. Aspects of feed are parallel examples of our current state.
A main idea portrayed in the book is the use of advertising and the media on the teenagers. I believe this book reflects our world today, And maybe a reflection of where we will be in the future. With all the use we put toward technology it seems like the feed is a potential possibility in the future. Currently most have cell phones, a device they carried with them all the time, a device that is continuing to become more and more advanced. Not only can we use it to communicate verbally, but also we can communicate just by texting, similar to the feed. Now most cell phones come with Internet, music, videos, picture and etc. all things the feed can do to. Feed is an example of the harm to much technology can do. The two characters Titus and violet struggle with the effects of having feeds. The only difference between the feed and the present is we have the choice. We control the amounts of time we spend using our phones. Where as the characters in feed do not.
